New X-ray machine for Sher Hospital in Ziway
Afriflora Sher recently installed a new X-ray machine worth over $50,000 at Sher Hospital in Ethiopia, which was provided by Dutch Flower Foundation.
The Sher Hospital in Ziway, which operates as a regional hospital, treats over 100,000 patients annually for a variety of reasons.
Afriflora Sher in Ethopia has the largest rose nursery in the world. Spread over three locations, the total greenhouse complex comprises an area of some 650 hectares. This can be compared to 900 soccer fields. Since 2005, Afriflora Sher has focused on the European retail market, particularly on orders based on long-term contracts. 95% of the roses, which arrive at Afriflora Sher in Aalsmeer, are sold and delivered directly to customers in this way.
Doctor Dems (head doctor): “Unfortunately there are a lot of traffic accidents in Ethiopia,” says doctor Dems, “and therefore the hospital has to deal with a lot of bone fractures. With the new X-ray machine, 15 to 20 people can be provided with a quick diagnosis every day and adequate treatment can be prescribed. We are very happy with this.”

With another 13 months ahead – we are positive that more children will benefit from this very important work the teacher is doing. We are grateful to support this wonderful long term project.

Dutch Flower Foundation has committed itself for 3 years to children’s service center De Lotusbloem in Aalsmeer (part of Ons Tweede Thuis foundation) with an annual contribution. The first contribution was used to purchase a ‘4-senses acoustic chair’. This chair reduces environmental stimuli, allowing you to relax in your own safe environment. An employee at OZ Planten in Aalsmeer (part of Dutch Flower Group), told Ferro van Dam about our foundation. His daughter Nova is 5 years old and has multiple disabilities and attends a wonderful school called De Lotusbloem.
